Born with the proverbial silver spoon in her mouth, Farah Khan Ali has proved to the world that she is more than just daddy’s little girl. She now stands close two decades into her sparkling career of gems and jewels. Decked with honours and awards for her creativity this doll face designer is known not just for her eye for detail and out of this world designs but also for her addiction to tweeting. She updates her status at least ten times a day and the confession brings a big sparkle of mischief in her eyes!
A woman of substance who appreciates all things pure and real – an its not just the fancy stones we are talking about here! She connects closely with her twitter family even though these are people she has never met or interacted with. “I guess strangers can also become friends.” And why not because that is exactly how she met her husband, DJ Aqeel. They met as strangers at a party where he was mixing music – one meeting led to another and soon they were friends. Friendship graduated to courtship and courtship led to marriage and kids.
They are strong individuals with completely different lifestyles – but they blend and have stayed one through the thick and thin of life. Deeply in love after 15 years of marriage, she feels its important for partners to give each other space and respect. Only then does the spark remain forever.
Farah is the eldest of the four children of parents Actor-Producer-Director Sanjay Khan and his wife Interior Designer Zarine Khan. She finished her graduation (BA) at Sophia College, Mumbai. Not knowing what she wanted to do, she tried her hand at everything raging from Ad films to interior design and even television production.
Farah’s foray into the jewellery line was purely by chance when she decided to accompany her friend on a whim to do a course in Gemology at the renowned Gemological Institute of America in Santa Monica, California in 1992. Farah Khan graduated at the top of her class in 1993.
Creating the Farah Khan Fine Jewellery Brand has not been an easy one and she faced a lot of obstacles along the way but she stuck to her beliefs and her brand philosophy. When she looks back, she does see flaws but she is happy that she was able to correct them too. “I am proud of my body of work for I dream and then work towards making that dream a reality.”
Never content with what she has achieved, she keeps the fire burning to scale greater heights. She may have been brought up in the lap of luxury but had she not worked towards her goal and put in the effort required to achieve she would have been an ordinary rich spoilt brat wasting her life doing lunches with bored socialites discussing the weather, the handbags, shoes and clothes that one possessed. She is grateful to her father for giving her the opportunity to educate herself, explore her talent and trust her capacity…
It’s not where you are born…It’s what you make of your life…I have seen the rich squander away their legacy and have seen the poor man make history….Carve your own destiny…Only YOU can..
I made mine……
